About ME
Neither a heroine or a hussy, I have always been drawn to strong female characters in literature and film. Give me tempestuous Scarlett O'Hara any day over mealy-mouthed Melanie Wilkes or fiery Catherine Earnshaw over patient and forgiving Jane Eyre. As a child, I gravitated toward spunky female characters like Pippi Longstocking, Jo March, and E.B. White's eponymous Charlotte. From Connecticut, I graduated from Duke University, earned an M.A. in English at Tulane, and returned to the Chapel Hill-Durham area where I taught high school English for thirty-four years. I love introducing people to new pieces of literature and new perspectives, and, in turn, find that I am invaluably enriched by class discussions.
